Description Suggest change

Cathedral Rock is an imposing plug of andesite, guarding the northern Daniel-Hinman ridge and visible from the Cle Elum River valley. It is one of the higher rock peaks in the region at 6724 feet, and commands an awesome position with views to Stevens Pass and the northern Alpine Lakes region. Cathedral is really a satellite peak of Daniel with the divide eroded away by glacial activity. Although many flanks are steep, the shattered nature of the rock allows moderate slopes and gullies leading to the summit. It was first climbed by a local in the last decades of the 19th century, and pilgrimages up its 4th class routes are common by visitors to the Roslyn region.

Getting There Suggest change

The PCT wanders past Cathedral's east flank, but the most direct option is the Cathedral Pass trail. Drive to Roslyn and embark on the 15 mile Cle Elum River Road. At the Cathedral Pass trailhead, hike gently upward for about 3 miles. The pass sits near the southeast flank from which the standard route begins. For others, take the PCT north to the meadows and basin north of the peak, or hike the .5 mile bootpath to Peggy's Pond on the south side.
