Description Suggest change

The overpass next to the entrance to Kin Red (the beach/old dock that serviced the nearby Marine Base) provides a rare opportunity on Okinawa to climb perfect vertical cracks. The area is trad, however, the horizontal and vertical cracks are perfectly parallel and allow the easy placement of cams and tricams. This is an easy first step if you are learning to place pro! There is top access to clean your anchor if you are careful in your placement. Shade after 2pm.

The vertical cracks are generally right around a BD#1 Cam and the horizontal cracks are anywhere between a BD .2 to .5. The way the wall is manufactured results in a shallow crack slightly less than one full hand depth.

The textured concrete that makes up the wall is covered in small crimpers, ascending the wall without the use of the cracks is straightforward and a fun workout for your crimp game. The crimpers, horizontal cracks, and ample smearing opportunities make secure footing if you don’t have shoes that enable toe jams.

*Warning* The edges of the cement are very sharp. If using soft goods over concrete edges be careful.

Access Issue: around lunch there are often locals eating lunch under the overpass, or walking/fishing along the beach. The area may be crowded, however, we haven’t had any issues. Just remain courteous and respectful.

Getting There Suggest change

Kin Red Harbor on google maps, or when taking 329 north toward Kin Town, take the 329 bypass north. Take the first left that is actually a road. This will put you at the base of the overpass. Take a right to drive under the overpass and park, the cracks are obvious.
