Access Issue: Rebolting Complete! Details

CA State Parks officially reopened Big Rock to public access April 28th, 2018. After months of effort 53 anchors and 232 bolts have been upgraded to 1/2" X 2.75" stainless steel Powers 5-piece bolts and rings.

Description

Little Big Rock as the name implies is a smaller version of Big Rock, which sits on the crest of the hill above Big Rock Main Slab. Little Big Rock currently hosts over a dozen sport routes up to 60 ft. in length on the South Face and Northeast sides of the dome.

Little Big Rock is seldom visited, so the routes are somewhat grainy and loose, thus a helmet is advised. Watch out for rattlesnakes and ticks as well.

Getting There

Hike up the trail toward Helios Boulder. Locate a faint use trail and hike east up the hill on the overgrown track to the base of the dome. Allow about 40 minutes for the approach. Alternately, hike up the hill to the north from Big Rock Sport Boulder for 20 minutes.
