Description Suggest change

More sea cliffs of various heights, some slabby, some overhanging. Mostly undeveloped, I think the first to scope these out seriously was Ammond Mcneely. Good views of seiners scooping up pink and chum salmon during the summer openers.

Getting There Suggest change

Park at the parking lot for Amalga Cabin approx 100 feet before Eagle Valley Visitor Center. Follow boardwalk over a creek and take the first right at the T. Continue on this trail past the cabin and kaykers cove. You will cross a short bridge and then the trail will go up and take a sharp right turn. At the sharp right turn, take a left (step over small fallen tree) and follow this trail through the woods. The trail eventually have multiple branches heading towards the ocean or to the right. Follow trails to the right that are right above above the beach, keeping the water to your left side as you follow the beach WNW. There might still be some flagging that was put up by the Juneau Alpine Club. You will pass a few rock outcroppings along the trail, keeping water to your left.

Eventually the trail will start a descent down to the beach where Merwich Cliff is. To continue past Merwich, follow trail near young spruce along forests edge. Trees will get older and more spread out as you continue a few hundred yards along forest edge, eventually leading you to "The Plank". From The Plank, the trail cuts through alders to beach. Once on beach the Pirate Crag is visible. Continue heading towards Pirate Crag along beach and more boulders will appear along the tideline traverse.
