Description
A small and short but fun Andesite/Dacite sport wall in a beautiful mountain setting. If you can get past the height of the routes, this crag offers another nice option for high elevation climbing in the summer. Get's sun and shade throughout the day with the early morning and evening offering the most shade. But, you can chase sun or shade all day no matter the season.
Getting There
Follow Snowbowl Rd 2.4 miles from Hwy 180 to a right-hand turnoff for Freidlein Prairie Rd (FR 522). Bear left at the first fork and follow FR 522 to a large parking area at the end of the road (about 4 miles in). The road is rough in spots but easily passible by anything with a little clearance, if care is taken. One uphill curve in particular is quite bad and could stymie those without clearance.
From the parking area follow the obvious wide trail for a couple minutes until the first left switchback. Here, a side trail takes off to the right (mountain bikers know this side trail as the Overlook Trail or Ricochet). Follow this side trail for about 5 minutes to a beautiful and obvious overlook. The cliff and routes are right under the overlook.
To reach the bottom of the cliff, backtrack along the trail about 200 yards from the overlook. Then, head off the trail and downhill following a fainter side trail. Go downhill about 100 yards and sneak left through some boulders/short cliffs to the base of the cliff. You will reach the Left Wall first and then Middle and Right Walls (it's all one continuous cliff).
In all, it's about a 10 minute, mostly flat and beautiful, walk to the crag.
