Description
The Riverview Area consists of the four west-most sectors of entablature in Echo Basin. Hence the name, this area has a view of the Columbia. It consists of generally vertical walls 30-40 feet high, almost all bolted sport climbs, but with a few scattered cracks. The rock is well cleaned, well traveled, and very good for Vantage. The area was developed mostly by Leland Windham and friends, thus all routes are generally very well protected. Due to the angle of the rock, there isn't much hard climbing here, but the best routes are in the 5.10 to 5.11 range, with a scattering of easier climbs.
Usually a more peaceful place to climb than the walls near or below Sunshine.
Approach
The easiest approach is from the parking lot at the west low end of Echo Basin. Take the jeep track for about a quarter of a mile until you see a faint trail on your left. Follow the trail up switchbacks to the broken plateau at the end of the mesa, and continue to find Sunset Park. Continuing east will lead you to the other walls.
You can also take the standard approach going over the mesa - any of the gullies will lead you down to the path that must be followed west. Gully 4 takes you the closest, however. Near the end, there is a left turn down a short gully that takes you to Riverview Park and past Weep Holes on a Sill 11a.
