Description

Sitting at around 5500 feet elevation this area is surprisingly good and offers quality tahoe granite throughout the winter in a dry year. And even in a wet year if snow level from storms is above 6000 feet then you should be good. Once Ice House road changes to Wright's lake road it is not plowed. There is also a gate at strawberry campground that prevents driving to Silver Creek area, but can park at the gate and walk the mile.

Getting There

Turn left off of US 50 on Ice House Road. Stay on this road for 10.2 miles and turn right toward Ice house reservoir. When you get to the stop sign look left--if not a lot of snow or packed snow with tire tracks and you have a AWD then turn here and park at 38.831981, -120.346757 for the Long Face Boulder. If too much snow go straight at the stop sign and park as far east as you can in the boat ramp parking area. If parking at the boat ramp parking lot walk along the trail and campground roads until at the Long Face Boulder GPS coordinates.
