Description
A cool canyon about thirty minutes from downtown. Scattered with moderate boulders. Condition-dependent, more due to the moisture retention in the creek bed than actual rain/snow. Nevertheless, I found that boulders like Thanks For Coming and Ash were accessible for 3 seasons and yielded fun chances to test my rubbers on smooth granite. Contrasting these more classic problems, I also built landings on some more unique boulders on the hill and they have grain for your digits to be overwhelmed by. Problems like War Story, No One Goes, and Prof. Devil were harder to reach than creek-side lines but provided some grain in the hot month of July. Summer is actually a rather enjoyable hang for climbing boulders at twenty five mile creek. It stays so cool down at the creek bed and works to your benefit.
Getting There
From Chelan, drive s. Lakeshore rd. to the last turnoff up the hill, and turn left up Shady Pass rd. Park at the North Twenty Five Mile Creek Trailhead. Since there is already a trail that's regularly maintained, spring through fall, just walk that flat sucker until it descends down and becomes more level with the creek. There is the left fork in the trail, often used as a service trail for the water access pump. To access Thanks for Coming, take this left. Do not climb on the small boulder with the plaque. Pass the dam, and to your left is the creek level dependent boulder, Thanks for coming, v4.To keep walking a short ways past it will bring you to the larger Ash boulder. Alternatively, check out the fun problems I cleaned downstream from the boulder with the plaque.
