Description
The Riegersburg, first mentioned in 1138, is sitting on top of a bastaltic rock formation. This rock formation was transformed into a sport climbing area with a couple of multi-pitch cimbs and 2 Via Ferratas. It is a unique crag where you climb in the shadow of a historic building and it is even possible to climb all the way up to the castle walls. To access the crag you have to register at the nearby high ropes course to the north of the castle (Entrance: 10€). For more information see: naturbursch-training.
In the summer mornings and evenings are best for climbing since the crag will be in the sun around 2 pm.
Opening hours:
Weekends and holidays from 10 am to 6 pm
There are many other fun things to do in the area such as visiting the castle with its three museums and a birds of prey show ( dieriegersburg.at). You can also tour a chocalte factory nearby ( zotter.at/en/) or taste some craft beer ( noom.at/) or distilled spirits ( ruotkers.at/) produced locally. If you feel more like relaxing, there are also some hot springs close by ( therme.at/en/ or bad-blumau.com/en/).
