Description Suggest change

St. Triphon is a converted quarry that has become a popular cragging area not far from Aigle, Lausanne, and other towns close to Lac Leman. The rock is limestone and generally of very good quality. Many routes have been rebolted and protection is generally good. The rock faces south / southeast and is pretty much at lake level, so it is often climbable even in the winter. It can get warm in the summer. Due to the popularity of the area, many of the popular routes are somewhat polished and therefore can be tough for their grade. Some routes are 30m long so a 70m rope is useful... most routes can be climbed with a 60m rope, however.

The town of St. Triphon actively supports climbing here. A good website with a reasonably up-to-date topo is available at:

st-triphon.ch/varappe/varap…

The climbs are also clearly marked at the base of each climb.

Getting There Suggest change

Park along the road at: 46°17'46.2"N 6°58'47.9"E. This is a oneway street running North and google maps does not seem to be aware of this, so beware if it brings you the wrong way. The actual climbing areas are close to the old quarry staging and are clearly visible. GPS: 46°17'43.6"N 6°58'39.8"E. There is a clearly marked path from the road up to the climbing areas.
