Description Suggest change

East Rosebud is one of the major drainages out of the northern Bearthooth mountains, with the East Rosebud creek, a designated Wild & Scenic river forming the drainage. In East Rosebud you can find bolted single pitch climbs all the way to multi pitch Alpine walls that have yet to see a human...A mix of crumbly rock, to beautiful granite can be found within these mountains, including in this drainage.

It can be hard to find a lot of beta for the climbing up this way, but with a bit of googling/instagramming/old guidebooks/word of mouth trip reports, you will find yourself having an adventure! This is not the place to find a pitch by pitch breakdown by gear, grade, photos very easily.

Getting There Suggest change

From Columbus, MT (west of Billings on I-90), go south on Highway 78 through Absarokee (watch for cops), to the town of Roscoe (get a steak at the Grizzly Bar) and turn right onto E. Rosebud Road. Follow this road until it ends at the ERL campground, or wherever you are planning on climbing that day. The drive from Columbus to the end of the road is a bit more than an hour on both washboard gravel and paved roads.
