Description
This roughly 95ft west facing granite face is an excellent location for practicing trad climbing/anchors, aid climbing, rappelling and self rescue techniques. The trail is popular with hikers so expect onlookers. The area is shaded in the mornings until about 11am.
There are at least 10 sets of bolted anchors in addition to options for building gear anchors. The bolted anchors are primarily located at the top of the cliff but there are also several sets positioned 20-30 feet back from the cliff edge. The top of the cliff is accessed by hiking the marked trail to the left of the face. There are also two bolted anchors lower down on the center of the face... one of which is accessible from the ground.
Rope & Safety Info:
A 60-meter rope is only sufficient to reach the ground from the bolted anchors located immediately at the cliff edge. Be sure to bring:
- Anchor material and carabiners to build or extend anchors
- A long section of webbing, static line, or cord to reach the anchor bolts that are set back further from the edge
Important: Always tie stopper knots in the ends of your rope if rappelling. The ground is not visible from the top, so it's essential to confirm that your rope reaches before committing to a rappel.
Getting There
Follow the obvious trail a quarter mile east to the granite face that is visible from the parking lot.
From the base of the rock face, look for the marked trail located on the left side which will get you to the top.
