Description
Swissco/Fall River Reservoir is a beautiful area with a fairly large concentration of amazing granite boulders. Some of the finest alpine rock in CO is located here, and the Swissco valley is an amazing scene of meadows, waterfalls, and big mountains. Problems range from obscure lowballs to awesome highballs to some of the best and hardest lines in the state. The season ranges from early-mid June through September. As with most alpine areas, impact is high, and remember to do your part to keep the area healthy.
Getting There
From Idaho Springs, take the Fall River Road exit about 1 mile west of the town. Drive up Fall River Road past 2 switchbacks. Right before the third paved switchback, make a left turn onto the dirt Rainbow Road (4WD). Follow Rainbow Road to its conclusion at Fall River Reservoir, making sure to keep right at the Chinns Lake branch. The road is about 3-3.5 miles and takes 30-45 minutes, all of which is on private land, so stay on the road. From Fall River Reservoir, lots of rock and the Swissco valley are visible.
