Description Suggest change

Nestled up high at 8,200' elevation, Crater Lake is a gorgeous little spot that offers primitive camping, fishing, and even a bit of bouldering at the edge of a pristine alpine meadow. The climbing is very limited (one solitary boulder), but the location and overall experience is well worth a visit.

Getting There Suggest change

From the intersection of Hwy 88 & 89, drive south on the 88 for approximately 4.4 miles and turn right (west) onto Alpine Mine Rd. The dirt road up to the lake is about 2 miles long, and can get quite rocky/rutted in places, so high ground-clearance is a minimum requirement, 4WD recommended. There are numerous places to pull over and park along the way, just be sure not to block the road if you choose to do so.
