Description
Large erratic of pink granitic gneiss, approximately 15-20’ tall with big solid flakes and cracks, mostly blank faces, a big overhanging section, and good landings. Downhill side is taller (about 20 feet) and slightly less than vertical.
Getting There
Park at the trailhead lot bottom of Buttrick Road (or the rails-to-trails parking lot on Winsted Road). Head uphill on foot up the old Buttrick Road for approximately 400 yards. On your right is a sign for the blue-square mountain bike trail, “The Mason’s Nutgrinder”. Follow the bike trail for 210 yards, and the boulder is on your right. Boulder is 3ft off the mountain bike trail, no reason to get off the trail too early.
