Description
A rather secluded and very shady area. This part of the park is great in the springtime before the leaves and vegetation grow in and before the blackflies and mosquitoes make their appearance. This area has a few harder gems and a good range of easy and moderate climbs to incorporate into the circuit.
Getting There
Starting from the parking lot, hike across the wooden bridge then take the trail on the right. This trail walks past the "Welcome Boulders" sitting on the hillside to the left. The trail forks ahead veering in two different directions. Take the left trail. This trail walks around the hillside which the "Welcome Boulders" sit atop, then passes through a bit of a wet area before going up a hill with a large fallen pine tree.
Keep following this trail up the hill until you reach a section of the trail where it crosses a logging/ skidder trail. This will be easy to recognize, it is a straight clearing through a wooded section of the forest that runs perpendicular to the hiking trail. Hikers have built a wooden bridge out of small logs and branches to get across some waterfilled ruts.
From this section of the trail, one can head to the "Swirley Boulder", then past it up the hill to reach the "Font Boulder", or one can head right down the logging road instead of following the hiking trail.
Taking this logging road cuts off the swampy and wooded section of the approach by the "Swirley Boulder".
Follow this logging road until it reaches a large clearing. From this clearing hike diagonally leftwards across it in order to gain another skidder path that goes up a hill which will place you on the left side of the "Font Boulder"
From the "Font Boulder", hike up the hill following the logging trail. The large "Optimus Boulder" will be off in the distance across a clearing, do not approach this boulder but instead, veer right down the skidder trail for a hundred yards before cutting right off the road into the woods over the crest of the hill. Once over the crest of the hill, the giant "Hangman Boulder" will become visible. The "Wetworks Boulder" is just down the hill from this large boulder, while the "Dynamics Boulder" is a few hundred yards past these two on the same side of the creek.
