Description Suggest change

Winding its way down from Slide Lake through beautiful, multicolored terrain with spectacular views of the Tetons, the Gros Ventre River is flanked by single-pitch cliffs high up the canyon walls and is graced by a number of large boulders on its banks. There is a fair amount of undeveloped climbing here, forgotten on account of being overshadowed by neighboring Grand Teton National Park. I discovered this area during the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020, when the National Parks were closed for an extended period of time. This area, being located on National Forest, was one of the few climbable areas still accessible. I believe many of the boulders and routes have never been touched.

Getting There Suggest change

From Kelly, WY, drive north on the main road and take the first right on Gros Ventre Road. You will wind through some aspen groves and eventually leave Grand Teton National Park. The climbing areas begin shortly beyond this point and are within a few hundred yards of Gros Ventre Road, though typically up or down steep terrain. The Quarantine Boulders have a ORV road leading down to them.
