Description
This is the first concentrated area of recent development at the bluffs and has several prominent cracks of different sizes(fingers, hands, OW) that split the rock. Use the bolted boulder on top of the formation to rappel over ledge and set up TRs. All possible lines at the area now have bolted anchors. It is highly encouraged to do any cleaning/development of climbs with a degree of caution and as potential for having loose rock. South facing sun all day and breeze coming off the river make this crag a true gem.
Getting There
Park at Birch Lake Pullout and walk across the road. Look for two trees flagged with PINK flagging tape which starts the trail leading directly to pandemic area. The trail is approximately 2.5 miles and takes a little over an hour if you are moving at a decent rate. The trail crosses a short area of boggy black spruce which collects water so plan accordingly. Trail is well marked and cut out! Once at the top of the bluff look for fire pit on flat ledge. Directly below lies Pandemic Area. Alternatively, you can grab a watercraft and have an enjoyable float down the Tanana to get there.
