Description
America's first National River; and perhaps soon to be the Verdon of the South.
Stellar pocketed limestone walls up to 200ft in height, tower above crystal blue waters rolling down the ozark mountains. While historically the Buffalo has been a recreational site for summer swims, gorgeous hiking, and the ever popular canoeing trip it has recently been recognized as a climbing destination.
The Buffalo river at the moment is anything but easy in terms of access, but waves are in motion to set up an organized, controlled method to allowing climbers to recreate in this stellar environment.
If pragmatic, logical and respectful discussion prevail with the parks service; there may just an explosion of development to come to what could be some of the more respectable hard climbing the south has to offer.
For the time being there is only one accessible area that is open for climbing "Pirates Cove" located in down off the Steel Creek pullout.
