Description
The most notable buildering landmark on campus, the Campanile is a set of three towering ventilation shafts that rise out of Red Square and serve as exhaust chimneys for the massive parking garage below. In the 1970’s the UW Climbing Club equipped the route with 1/4” bolts to its top. The lower 80’ of bolts were later chopped after a ‘climbing spectacle’ made the nightly news. The Campanile was completed in 1970.
