Description Suggest change

Yellowcake Wall is a small, overhanging, north-facing section of the extensive, west-facing Illium Wall. The climbs are in the second buttress to the right just above the well known Illium Boulders. The rock is sandstone, but it gets really dirty from dirt falling from above. Bring brushes. There are just three routes and one link-up - they are good though, steep and pumpy, fun. The rest of the rock there is pretty chossy. I would not recommend bolting more routes. During the 3 years I was climbing up there, I saw 2 major rockfalls from the first wall, refrigerator-size blocks.

Getting There Suggest change

Park near the Telluride Mountain School in Lawson Hill, and hike or bike the Galloping Goose Trail. Once you see this flat spot to the left in a very nice looking aspen forest (you kinda have to follow your instincts here), leave your bike locked to a tree, and start hiking. There is no really a trail, so kind of hike up towards the wall that you can not see. Once you reach the first wall, hike along its base until you get to the second wall with the little Yellowcake at the beginning of it. Hiking from the Illium Boulders is longer and steeper.
