Access Issue: PLACING BOLTS IS ILLEGAL IN THE SUPERSTITION WILDERNESS!
Details
In the early '90's the USFS banned all placement of bolts in the Superstition Wilderness. This unfortunately includes replacement of existing bolts. Violating this ban may result in climbing restrictions on this beautiful area. Please think twice and go bolt somewhere else.
Description
The Sundial is an aesthetic spire that stands out among a landscape of hoodoos and peculiar rock formations. The amphitheater in which the Sundial stands is a beautiful venue filled with Superstition charm and has some spectacular views of the east face of Weavers Needle.
Although the Sundial is near Barks Canyon Wall, it’s rock quality is not quite as good but moderate overall. Expect some looseness.

Getting There
From the Peralta Trailhead, take the Bluff Springs trail up and over the ridge into Barks Canyon. Follow the trail past Barks Canyon Wall until the main canyon takes a 90 degree right turn at a rocky beach. From here take a few steps up creek and look for a faint trail to your left (north). From this point you are now leaving the Bluff Springs trail and following an unnamed trail marked by cairns that will take you generally north. Follow this trail as best as you can for another 20 minutes or so until you reach the base of the spire. About an hour hike in total. See the map for a gps location.
