Permits are required to enter the park.
The permitting process is a fairly confusing and complicated and requires you to get your permits IN MENDOZA. You can only get single day trekking permits at the Honcones Valley Ranger Station.

Climbing Season
The climbing season lasts from November 1st to April 30th each year. If attempting Cerro Aconcagua, expect little to no base camp support, as well as very unstable weather conditions at the start and end of this period.
High Season is from December 15th - January 31st. Expect large amounts of people, especially on the "Normal" Honcones valley side of the mountain, though the weather is often the best and most stable during this period. Permit costs are also slightly higher during this time.
Your date of entry into the park determines whether you are in "high" or "low" season. Beginning your trek on Dec 14th, for example, would still qualify as "low season".
