Pico Humboldt is the second tallest peak in Venezuela and home to most likely the last glacier in the country.

First ascended in on 16 January 1911 by Alfredo Jahn and L. Hedderich heralding the birth of Venezuelan mountaineering. Alfredo Jahn named the peak for naturalist Alexander von Humboldt.

The peak is typically climbed from a camp at Lago Verde or Laguna Suero.

Pico Humboldt is located around 7km east of Pico Bolívar.

Elevation:  approximately 16,210 feet.

Getting There Suggest change

Normally approached from La Mucuy with a check in with the rangers prior to entering the Sierra Nevada National Park.

Could also be approached from the tram in Mérida to Pico Espejo and a trail known as la Travesa leading to the east past Pico Bolívar.

This mountain is located in the Sierra Nevada de Mérida which is the tallest range in Venezuela and lies south of the city of Mérida.
