Description Suggest change

Eagle Rock is clearly visible from the North Umpqua Highway just up river from Copeland Creek. It lies above the north bank, just uphill of the North Umpqua River. Eagle Rock is a shallow intrusive rhyodacitic dome about 400 feet tall on the river side, but only about 80 feet tall from the north uphill "Parkway Saddle". A large ledge known as the Parkway contours around Eagle Rock in both directions from the Parkway Saddle. There is a summit register on Eagle Rock.

A Peregrine closure is in effect each season until two weeks after the young have fledged (no later than July 15).
PG = exposure and leads generally may be unsuited to someone transitioning from gym to outdoor climbing at the same rating.

Getting There Suggest change

From Roseburg take Diamond Lake Blvd to follow Highway 138 to milepost-50 (Marsters Bridge trail head of North Umpqua Trail). Follow the trail up river to the Illahee Flat trail jct. Hike Illahee Flat trail uphill until it comes close to one of the power-line access roads. Scramble uphill to the power-line access road and follow it uphill until it ties into the main access road that follows the power-lines to the uphill saddle ridge that takes you down to the Parkway Saddle and ledge on the north side of Eagle Rock. Follow the ledge right around the west side to access Paul Bunyan's Chimney route.
Note: there are many historic rock cairns in the area that should not be disturbed.
