Access Issue: Seasonal Raptor Closures ***** RAIN AND WET ROCK ***** The sandstone in Zion is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN ZION during or after rain. A good rule of thumb is that if the ground near your climb is at all damp (and not powdery dry sand), then do not climb. There are many alternatives (limestone, granite, basalt, and plastic) nearby. This section includes routes on the West Face and North Face of Tucupit.
Getting There
Park at Middle Fork of Taylor and hike trail to cabin. Turn of at the cabin on a well worn social trail the goes down to the North Face. Cross the creek once then continue along trail until the turn off for your objective. 1) Take the fork up the sagebrush slope for West Face Routes (from Pain Chamber to Moped Man). 2) Continue along the creek and take the first steep (near-vertical) drainage on the right for Skeleton Key and Stone Age. 3) Continue along the creek and trend up the slope past the large talus field for other routes (Deerslayer, Beer-hedral, Shady Tuna).
