Description Suggest change

At least 13 sectors with nearly 400 routes, some of which date back to the 1970's. A wide variety of routes exist here, including multi-pitch gear and mixed routes up to about 400 feet in height, with mostly western aspects but also north and northeast aspects that provide more shade opportunities. Many of the routes can be climbed and descended with a 60-meter rope, but some will require more. A trail system goes around the northern end of the formation and over the top at its center point (part of the route VP SEF) to allow one to park at either side of the formation as desired.

The sectors here are Parete delle Gemme, Placa dell'Oasi, Ombre Blu, Pancia dell'Elefante, Placca Piotti, Scimmiodromo, Settore Centrale, L'Olimpo, Settore Settentrionale, Il Giardino, Versante Nord, Il Grotto, and Il T-Grotto. Galle describes the approach below the west face using a dirt track from the town of Calice. This is rough and little used but provides a quick approach to sectors other than the Grottos, Versante Nord and Setoro Settentrionale. The latter are best approached from the northeast end of the formation from a lot and marked trailhead (Cianassi) on the way towards Monte Sordo.

Getting There Suggest change

Rocca di Perti is the formation overlooking Finalborgo on which Castel San Giovarini, Castel Gayone and the Chiesa di Perti are located. Follow pavement north from Finalborgo on the right bank of Fiume Pora. Go to Calice to find the dirt track, or to reach the parking at Cianassi look for a sharp right turn just before going under the autostrada. Follow this narrow but paved route past the castle and church for a couple kilometers until it takes a sharp bend to the right. The car park is at this bend. The main trail (VP SEF) goes between two sign boards and climbs gently left, ultimately crossing over the top. Take the first trail junction to the right. Trees block all view of the crags until you're within 100 feet or so of the base, and even then one cannot really see what lies ahead. The first crag reached is Versante Nord. Continue around the north end of Rocca di Perti to reach Settore Settentrionale.
