Description Suggest change

The Rabbit Ears are approximately 300 foot rhyodacitic pinnacles at the top of Keith Creek. Rock quality ranges from very solid to somewhat hollow and loose. There are seven establish "adventure" routes on the Ears ranging from 5.8 to 5.10b. Protection will vary from trad, bolts, and an occasional fixed piton. Top anchors are slowly being upgraded to chains, but don't count on it. Pack some cheap 1" tubular to leave if needed and a knife to remove the old stuff. For experienced climbers I recommend beginning simple (i.e. West Face Route 5.8****) to develop a feel for the rock before moving onto some of the more challenging climbs. And, don't skip belays.

Getting There Suggest change

Take the trail from the upper climber's camp down and across Forest Service Road 850 then follow the Lookout Ridge Trail to just before the top of the Panorama Point knoll. Near the top keep an eye out for a trail on the left that takes you out onto Panorama Point where you will see Rabbit Ears near by to the south. Relocate the side trail and follow it down the backside (left side) of Panorama Point and around its base then dropping down on a slight ridge to the upper North Ear saddle. From here scramble down around the right side of the North Ear into the lower cleft between the North and South Ear where you will find the Cave Route (.10a) up the ~south side of the N. Ear and the West Face Route (.8) which begin in the upper saddle on the ~north side of the South Ear. For a detailed inventory of scramble trails in the Menagerie refer to Rock Climbing Western Oregon, Volume 1: Willamette, Mountain N Air Press.
