June 1st, 2017:The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance (SLCA), the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), and Access Fund announce the signing of an unprecedented lease for 140 acres in Little Cottonwood Canyon (LCC). The parcel, known as the Gate Buttress, is about one mile up LCC canyon and has been popular with generations of climbers because of its world-class granite.
The agreement secures legitimate access to approximately 588 routes and 138 boulder problems at the Gate Buttress for rock climbers, who will be active stewards of the property. The recreational lease is the result of several years of negotiations between LDS Church leaders and the local climbing community.
Access Note: The climbs on the Church Buttress above the vault as well as the Glen boulders that have been traditionally closed will remain closed.
Please help us steward this area and leave no trace.

Getting There
Park just before the pump house and cross the stream at a log jam about 100 yards downstream, then follow the bike path till you pass the pump house. Charlie's boulder is a bout 50 yards south of the trail and somewhat hard to find at first. The whiskey boulder is easier to find. Follow the path uphill for another 100 yards or so and the boulder will be about 25 yards uphill on the right.
Low tide crossing: if the river is low enough to cross- park 75 yards up-canyon from the pump house. Look for an small gate hidden in the brush just off the road. Go through the gate, then immediately turn right and step across a pipe and down to the river. Cross the river on a big log next to an SUV-sized boulder. Exit the river and bear slightly right through some pine trees to find a good path leading to the bike trail. Walk up-canyon 275 yards on the bike trail (2-3 minutes) past a group of beautiful tall pines on the left side of the trail… just past this you’ll see the boulders on the right- take the short steep trail up to them.
