Description Suggest change

Website:
larioclimb.paolo-sonja.net/…

A south-facing moderate multi-pitch and hard-single pitch rock-raining sharp (but not painful) limestone playground looking over the town of Lecco and the surrounding lakes and mountains.

Routes of up to 6 pitches on nice rock, and harder single pitches (more still being developed) on a beautifully flat tiny pocket-covered face.

BRING A HELMET because the via ferrata decent trail above, and other hiking and via ferrata nearby frequently shower these routes with little (and sometimes not so little) falling rocks. (On my first trip there on a busy Sunday, we had to duck and cover at least three times to avoid small/medium falling rock showers ("SASSO!" = "ROCK!" in italian, btw)

Getting There Suggest change

From Lecco, drive and park on Via Antonio Bonaiti just above the cemetery outside the church "Santuario di Santa Maria Gloriosa." (Or if you get there by train, it's about a 35 min uphill talk through Lecco from the central train station. I think maybe there's buses instead too?)

Walk up the road to the left between some houses, and shortly coming to a long staircase of fake cobble stone. Climb that to the top, and go left along the paved road (Via Paradiso?) for less than 5 minutes, and make a U turn to the right when you see the donkeys (And if you don't see them, you'll certainly be able to here them from pitch 6). After 2 minutes or so, a real cobblestone staircase trail appears on the left, with a sign reading trails 52 & 58. Follow the staircase/stone trail uphill for 10-20 minutes (depending on how fast you climb) until at the end of a run of shallow but cleanly-made sobblestone steps it merges with a stone road/trail thingy. Follow this in the same direction for about 7 minutes, and look out for a trail on the right (super-sharp right turn, possible to walk past and not notice) with a sign for trail 58 - follow that. It's a skinnier trail with some plants, follow it along side the rock-fall barrie for no more than 10 minutes, until you see another sign for trail 58 on your left. Climb up the steep dirt trail, and just after it starts to level out and head right along the cliff, follow a trail (there's a few) up left switchbacking through some skree. Five minutes and you'll arrive at the base of the right-most climbs of Antimedale.

From the church parking lot, it's about 30 minutes of low to moderate incline hiking.
