The Wall of Payne

Description
This is a east southeast facing wall on the left side of the trail about 200 feet in. Walk through a squeeze in the rocks, over a rocky hump and down until you can easily enter a wash on the left. The Wall of Payne is the tall, steep wall on the left. The rock is on city property. The adjacent neighbor has been known to holler at people climbing. Please contact me on the Mountain Project email link if this happens.
Getting There
Park at the Flume Trail parking area and take the trail just a wee bit in and look at the cool wall on the left. Last I knew someone stole the rap anchor so, you have to scramble off.
[Hide Comment] There are some great, easy climbs on the right side of this wall. It's only a 5 minute hike in, and my kids climbed 2 different routes that probably went at 5.3.

[Hide Comment] I was expecting to find an anchor when I got to the top based on your book, but they were missing. I was able to easily setup an anchor with a tree. There were still several anchors visible on the harder routes to the left of this section.

[Hide Comment] There are currently NO ANCHORS or rap rings atop this wall. One can see many bolt holes, but everything is gone. That said, one can build gear anchors for all of the climbs with a 40m static rope if one is familiar with the Joshua Tree System, Backside System (or similar). There are some great boulders and cracks for this purpose atop the wall (especially on the right). I would not use the boulder on the left that looks like it could slide down the face, but we were able to use other features on the left to put in a Backside System. These climbs are a blast and the bolts on the sport climbs are intact. Lucha Libre is a very fun easy trad lead.
