Description
A stunning mountain, one of the most iconic landmarks in New Zealand, rises steeply out of the Bonar Glacier and holds a number of incredibly aesthetic ridge climbs as well as difficult and committing alpine routes. This is a classic NZ mountain, and should be on the list for any mountaineers visiting the country
Getting There
Approach via the matukituki valley road, park in the raspberry creek parking lot and walk up the matukituki valley track to the very end of the valley, climbing up the slabs below bevan col and then crossing the bonar glacier to reach the base of the mountain. routes to reach the mountain also exist up french ridge, crossing the glaciated quarterdeck and accessing the bonar that way, but it is much more conditions dependent in late season.
