Description
Two trailside boulders. Similar feel to the Buttermilks stone, with more quartz crimps and friction slab lines.
Getting There
In Lewis G Larus Park. Either park at the trailhead near the Sneeds Nursery and the fire station and hike north towards Stony Point, or park behind the VCU Health building at 9109 Stony Point Dr., Richmond, VA 23235. Park behind the building near a dumpster enclosed by brick wall. Hike up the grassy berm behind the dumpster. There are no trail signs, but a faint trail cuts into the woods. After passing through a chainsaw-cut log, take the trail to the right, going downhill to a small platform bridge that crosses a stream bed. Continue uphill, following the obvious, root-filled trail. After passing through a second chainsaw-cut log, take the trail to the left. Follow the trail downhill, past a large uprooted tree and winding along a scenic stream bed on the right. When the trail levels out, the boulders appear at the top of two conjoining stream beds. Is this the namesake of Stony Point? Approach from Sneeds is about 20 minutes, and the approach from Stony Point is about 6.
