b. North Central

New Jersey

Description

Lots of interesting climbing. Too bad not more of it is legal.

Defined here as . . .
* Morris county
* Passaic county (except its Southeast lobe)

Key climbing regions:
* Ramapo ridges
* Ringwood bouldering
* Green Pond Mt ridges

rock types:
* granite + gneiss in Ramapo
* quartzite conglomerate (purple shade) in Green Pont Mt ridges

Legal concerns

Climbing is generally not legally permitted on . . .
* parks of Passaic county.
. . - - > Rules and Regulations for Park property (especially section 37)

* at least some parks or other land owned by Morris county.
. . (be glad to get links or more info about this).

* Newark + Pequannock Watershed land.
. . (be glad to get links or more info about this).

* Wildlife management areas of the state of New Jersey.

Seems obvious that the "climbing" prohibited includes Top-Roping or Lead-climbng using a rope. Some or most forms of bouldering would likely also fall under those prohibitions.

Getting There

Interstate 80 through the south part. NJ route 23 into the north part.
