Description
Jang-gun-bong is the tallest of the three peaks visible from Bisun-dae. It is home to some of the old school classic lines.
Unfortunately, there has been a major closure of the southwest face in 2013, due to the rockfall hazard on the trail right beneath the climbing sector. All routes to the left of Geum-gang-gul (the cave) are closed, which include "Alpine Kolon", "Alpine Clutch", "Suk-Yi Farm", "A2O", "Gum-Gang", "Cordee".
The routes open for climbing on Jang-gun-bong are (as of 2020), "Gi-Jung", "Goo-Gong", located just to the right of the trail to the cave, and "Gi-Jon", "Himalaya Wanderer", "Jang-gun 97", "Born on Oct 1" which can be accessed through the same trail as that for the Juk-Byuk (red wall).
Getting There
From Shin-Heung temple parking lot, follow the valley of Chun-bul-dong for 30 minutes to reach Bisun-dae. There will be three prominent peaks visible from Bisun-dae to the right. The tallest peak on the left is Jang-gun-bong. To reach the base of the lower routes, take a steep climber's trail on the right just before you cross the bridge to Bisun-dae. To reach the upper routes (Gi-Jung, Goo-Gong), take the hiker's trail up to Geum-Gang-Gul. You will come across a smooth wall to the right of a steep stairway heading up to Geum-gang-gul.
