Overhang

Rhode Island > Narragansett > Bass Rock

Description

Fun but short overhanging wall close to the water at Bass Rock. The climbs utilize a huge block for feet that runs along the base of the overhang and allows for the small crimps on the face to be usable.  Pay attention to the tides when coming to this boulder. As you can see in the picture, there is a pool of water at the base of the overhang.  Rocks have been piled there so that during low tide you can throw pads down and climb, but they can get shifted around by the water.  If they are out of place, try to move them back under the overhangs so everyone can safely climb here.

Getting There

Park at the bottom of Bass Rock Rd, off Ocean Rd in Narragansett. Follow the path down to the coast and Bass Rock will be in front of you, slightly off the the left. Follow the coast out ~100 Meters to Bass Rock walking over small rocks most of the way.  Once you are on the large rock, the slabs should be in front of you off to the left.  To get to the overhangs, walk towards the back of the rock trending right.  You'll need to hop over a small pool in the middle of the rock, but once you are on the other side, turn left and you'll be able to see the slabs. If at the slabs turn around and walk in the opposite direction for ~30 feet and the overhangs will be facing the coast, below you and you'll need to hop down or walk around.
