Description
This area is for the bouldering roughly concentrated around the town of Bend.
A walk along the Tumalo Creek trail will reveal hundreds of possible boulder problems that have yet to be brushed off and recorded. Walking through Farewell Bend park near the Old Mill district will leave you wondering what possible climbs exist up there. Even a lot of the mountain biking trails are boxed in with unchartered rock.
Until the Central Oregon Bouldering guidebook came out in 2017 there was not much talked about or publicized in the way of local climbing or bouldering, and many areas had been kept secret. Fortunately, that era is ending and it's time to get out there, enjoy the luxury of a full color guidebook, and climb some new problems.
While the bouldering in Central Oregon isn't really a destination area for the most part, there are thousands of great problems and many gems worth checking out even if you're just passing through. The Depot, Meadow Camp, and the Widgi boulders are among the best, but there are enough documented and undocumented areas to keep one busy exploring for years.
