Description
This area is the "low hanging fruit" for the Ruidoso area, so to speak. The easiest spot to access from town, there are a few nice boulders and two larger rock faces in a quaint setting along Eagle Creek. The Plan B boulder offers a nice spot to get in some quality climbing with good landings just next to the water. The Great Wall of Alto offers a larger purchase of rock, but is mostly suitable for risky highball climbs at this time.
Getting There
Park at the main parking area for Alto Lake, off of NM-48/Billy The Kid Trail. Walk down the Eagle Creek trail until you can cross the bridge, then keep heading downstream. The Desperation Boulder is the first one you come to on the left of the trail. Continue down the trail until you spot the obvious boulder and large rock wall next to the creek. The Plan B Boulder sits to the left of the creek (walking away from he parking lot). The Great Wall of Alto is obvious and just a few hundred feet beyond and is split by the creek.
