CCC Raptor Nesting Closure 2 (E of Tunnel 2). In 2016, the closure WAS lifted June 9 for ONLY the 2016 season, per Eric Krause, JeffCo OS Ranger. Photo reconfiguration: Ron Keller.

The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.

Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:

Description

The Cat Slab Annex is the giant dihedral beyond/south of Cat Slab. The left side of the dihedral has the easy routes. This slab has been climbed on trad gear. The upper right side has much steeper rock, including some dramatic overhangs. There are reports that the lower right has choss.

Per Peter Thomas: there is now a practice/training anchor between the start of Sylvester and Bill The Cat. These are intro multi-pitch climbs, and this ground anchor is intended to practice systems on the ground.

Getting There

Park as for Cat Slab (just beyond Tunnel 5). Cross the bridge on the road to just before the tunnel, and turn right/south onto the Cat Slab trail. Follow the trail to and then past Cat Slab. After ~25 yards beyond Cat Slab, start angling up. Another 25 yards of steepening trail leads to the base.
