Description
Mt. Patterson is the first major peak north of Bow Summit, and is best known for Riptide and Rocket Man, both big time Rockies classics! They lie in a bowl on the north side of the mountain, and and can be easily viewed just a few minutes past Bow Summit, at the first pull out on the west side of highway 93. All routes on Patterson are subject to avalanche hazard! Do not consider them until you have checked conditions.
Getting There
Just north of Lake Louise, exit Highway 1 and take the Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93) north toward Jasper. There is minimal winter maintenance on 93 so be prepared for poor driving conditions. About 30 minutes past Lake Louise, you will travel up and over Bow Summit. The pull-out for Mt. Patterson is on the left, about 5 minutes past Bow Summit.
