Description

A fine winter climbing area, perhaps one of the best winter areas in Greece, is the tri-castle city of Nafplio. The climbing areas are either seaside or just above the sea with a great view of the beautiful blue waters. It's great to be able to climb a few pitches and then walk a minute down to a beach for some swimming and relaxing.
The rock is high quality limestone with slightly overhanging pocketed climbing as well as some quality, gray slab climbing (if you're into that kind of thing.) Climbing is possible year round but ideally this is a late fall/winter/early spring area.
Nafplio has many hotel, apartment, restaurant and shopping opportunities since it's a beautiful, quaint city popular with tourists. Speaking of tourists, if you're in the area, it's highly recommended to stop by the nearby Epidavros Theater , a 20 minute drive from Nafplio.

Getting There

Nafplio is a 1.5 hour drive from Athens. From Athens, drive Attiki Odos highway (tolls) towards Elefsina. Pass Elefsina continuing towards Corinth. At Corinth, take the E65 highway towards Tripoli. Before Tripoli, head south to Nafplio. It's a scenic drive along the coast for a good portion of the drive. Best to use Google maps for directions.
