Organ Pipes Tower

Utah > S Central Utah > Grand Staircase > Church

Description

A proud, twin-topped, free-standing tower deep in the heart of the White Rocks area. The rock starts in the white, soft, muddy layer, and shifts to the orange/brown, harder, cleaner band at 1/2 height. This formation will only appeal to those with an appreciation for the soft-rock obscurities of the desert, but for such connoisseurs, it offers decent climbing, a spectacular summit, and a truly secluded ambiance that isn't too far from your car.

Getting There

Follow the approach directions to the Minarets. Continue on the well-beaten cow trail past (northwest of) the Minarets for another 1/2 mile. The trail takes one almost to the base of the tower. The total approach distance is 1.75 miles on generally good, flat trail. It takes about 45 minutes, if you were able to drive all the way to the turnaround on access road K7065.

[Hide Comment] The hike is not that arduous. That is, IF the winter did not produce an exuberant number of Tumbleweeds (Salsola kali), but, it is flat and well trodden by a myriad of cows, thus making it easy for we craggers who want a well defined trail to our destination. Oct 5, 2017
