Description Suggest change

Beautiful Sierra lake in the middle of a moderately trafficked hiking trail network. Great hiking and camping is available from lake to lake in the area, especially on the NE corner of the lake facing the obvious wall to be climbed. Similar to Island Lake bouldering in that it is fairly exposed terrain sparsely populated with trees at ~7000 ft elevation. Main feature here is a small granite dome in the middle of the the lake which is used for diving. Most other rock around the lake is granite rubble, but a few jems may be found. I wasn't able to find any history on the area, but if someone has any information I'm happy to update for credit, names and dates.

Getting There Suggest change

Same as Island Lake, but with a longer hike in... From Sacramento take 80 east to the 20 and head west. Turn right on Bowman Lake Rd. and follow it until the signs for Carr and Feeley Lake point you in the right direction. Stay on this dirt road taking the path most traveled until you reach the parking lot which may have many cars in it due to the backpackers. The last 1/4 mi. of the road is a little rough but it's not too bad for cars if you drive slow. There is a parking area on the right as you come in to the rough section of the road and it's only a couple minutes to the trailhead. The entire drive from Hwy. 20 to the parking area is 30 min. Hike past Feeley Lake a couple of miles to Island Lake, take the trail north for another 1.5 miles to Penner Lake. The last 1/4 mile of the hike is fairly steep hiking.
