Description Suggest change

This is a new area near the city of San Juan, only a few kilometers away from the town of Pocitos.

Currently there's only a handful of hard sport routes but the potential to develop moderate and more adventurous (even multipitch) routes seems unlimited. The approach involves a little bit of scrambling and pulling on fixed ropes and is extremely fun.

Getting There Suggest change

From the city of San Juan, take Ruta 40 or Calle Mendoza towards the South (Mendoza), until you reach Pocito, where the streets that are perpendicular to the road start having a number. Take a right on Calle 11 (to the West) and go across Pocito's downtown and continue until the street becomes a dirt road. About a 100 meters after entering the dirt road, take a left and continue along the left side of the waterway. After 2.7 km you'll find a wide concrete bridge which you should take to cross the waterway. Continue mostly straight for about 4 km along a path that goes directly to the mountain. You'll reach a big water tank and you must turn left again on a path that goes along the foot of the mountain (do not go up). You'll encounter the mouth of the canyon only a few hundred meters after. There's place for parking right there.

Walk into the canyon and after 5 minutes you'll find it splits in two ways, take the more obvious way to the right, where you'll see a wall with beautiful patterns created by rock layers. This is an area known as Sector de los Pliegues, which has a couple easy routes where you can warm up. Continuing up the canyon you'll find a few rock steps which can be scrambled up, and which sometimes will have fixed ropes for pulling up/rappeling down (make sure the ropes are in good condition before pulling!). After about a 20 minute hike you'll find the area known as Sector del Desplome, which has the rest of the routes in the canyon.
