Description Suggest change

This section is specifically for ice and mixed routes on the north side of the MRC Complex and the broad chimney that splits the entire dome west to east, defining the south side of the MRC Complex. These short and bony ice routes come in every winter but are completely dependent on snow melt from the tops of the dome.

Getting There Suggest change

In the winter, Central Vedauwoo including the ice/mixed routes require walking from way up at the road closure gate. The following directions are included once you reach the Box Canyon parking area.

For the north side and highest concentrations of ice, walk around the west side of the MRC Complex via the easy Turtle Rock trail. Cut upward like the approach to Crystal Freeway, but go over the small saddle south of Crystal Freeway.

The south side chimney is easy enough to approach from box canyon parking by walking slabs directly up to the MRC Complex.
