Description

One of the more frequented Banks Lake Ice Climbing areas. Home to a few easy to moderate ice routes that are easily accessed with short hike from the road. The routes are spring fed by the Martin Falls drainage and come in reliably with cold weather.

Although this area can absorb several parties and is a great place for easy ice, there is a significant Objective Hazard from above. Because the cliff above is overhung, there are a fair amount of large icicles (often referred to as DEATH-CICLES) formed above. These will fall periodically throughout the day over The Devils Punch Bowl (WI2+) and send large ice down to the belay areas. Not a great place for pets.

Getting There

When traveling North on SR 155 look for a large pullout on the right 1.3 miles past the turn for Steamboat Rock State Park (left turn). The flow is large and can be seen from the road. From the parking area hike down into the basin and then up east towards the ice. Because of the ice fall hazard it is recommended that you dawn your helmet before approaching.
