Description
T A J G R A P A T A, in Aymara "Peñasco Duro" is a rocky outcrop of volcanic tuffs that together with the erosion of the wind have generated varied forms, walls, ceilings and collapses. It is located at the beginning of the altiplano Tarapaqueño at 4,000 meters above sea level and has been established since 2012 as the official area of Escalada in Iquique.
Logistics
The area has a camping area located a few meters from the road, where there is a large cavern with fire signals and some pircas. Take water, as there is no place and take precautions as it is at 4,000 meters above sea level. Getting There
To get to tajgrapata you have to take the a-16 route that leaves Iquique to the Humberstone saltpeter, then turn left towards Arica. Arriving in the town of Huara, turn right where the international road to Colchane and Oruro begins. Continue along this road until km 90, where to the right of the road (100m) begins the rocky outcrop. You can go in any vehicle since all the way is paved, for the public transport, you can take a bus that goes to Oruro at the bus terminal and get off at km 90 of the international road (the return can be by a hitchike ), It is recommended to go by car, they are $ 25,000 of fuel aprox)
