Naegelesfels

International > Europe > Germany > Schwäbische Alb

Description

This little crag overlooks the village of Dettingen an der Erms. While near a few other crags, it sits off alone which means its often less visited than Wiesfels for example.

Naegelesfels has 17 routes overall, most in the 5.9 and 5.10 range with only a handful in easier grades. However, it's somewhat more off the beaten path making a good place to enjoy peace and quiet and perhaps avoid crowds from Stuttgart.

Climbs are 10 to about 25m high and there's a "real" summit with cross which makes it more fun than other crags in the sense of feeling like you really summited something. That also means rappelling is required as there's no walk off option.

Getting There

You could use the same parking spot for Wiesfels and Rossfels, but the walk would be a bit longer.

Alternatively take the B27 towards Dettingen, drive through the town and just at the end take a right when you see the sign for "Naturfreundehaus Waldheim." Once you pass over the little bridge, park just before you reach the Waldheim.

Follow the trial to the first "intersection" and head right and then next take a left. You'll eventually reach the crag. It's 30min or so from parking to crag, which is actually the same-ish if you use the other parking lot for Wiesfels and Rossfels.
