Pasture Gulch

Montana > Southwest Region > Castle Mountains

Description

A small limestone crag located on the east side of the Castle Mountains just off of Pasture Gulch Road. Currently there are (6) developed mixed routes that all require some trad gear with a few quick draws. Routes range from 5.7 to 5.11a.

Pick up Ron Brunckhorst's "The Big Empty" for a full description of routes.

Getting There

East of White Sulphur Springs on US-12 find Pasture Gulch Road between mile marker 68 and 69. Head south along a Forrest Service road through private property until you reach a Y intersection, head left to the east on Pasture Gulch. Shortly there after you will reach a second Y. Head left again switch backing to the north then south. You will come to a USFS access gate that is locked from Sept 1 to Dec 1 during MT's long hunting seasons. Just past this gate and approximately 1 mile from the last Y you will see the crag up and to the east. Park without blocking the road, and walk the faded game trail up to the south side of the crag. The approach only takes a few minutes.
