Description Suggest change

Steigen and Hamarøy is fairly undeveloped but has a great potential. The rock is predominately granite, similar to the the rock across the fjord in Lofoten.

The must-climb in Hamarøy is Hamarøyskaftet at 613m (2020ft). An easy climb, but a landmark in the area and absolutely beautiful view.

Also worth checking out is the up-and coming sports crag at Nordskot. A nice challenge for starting climbers which offers beautiful, hard granite with excellent cracks for honing your nut-placing skills.

Getting There Suggest change

Both Steigen and Hamarøy are accessible from the E6 road. You can also get there directly by boat from Bodø and Svolvær. If specifically asked to, the boat stops at Nordskot, where the Nordskot crag is just a short hike away. Hamarøyskaftet can be reached by bike from Skutvik.
